“The power under the constitution will always be in the people. It is entrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can and undoubtedly will, be recalled.”

HB 2067 update: Pulled!!!!

Earlier, we warned everyone about HB 2067, "Eliminating Reimbursement for Defense Costs of Persons Acquitted on the Basis of Self-Defense", and urged everyone to contact legislators to kill this bill.

What with the rally and all, I forgot to update you on this:  the bill was pulled from the Ways & Means agenda, and is currently not being considered for this session.  The responses I received from various representatives indicate that the bill was pulled because of all the calls and e-mails in opposition to the bill.  There were very few contacts in support of it.

HB 2067 should be dead for this session of the state legislature, but it's possible to be revived.  And that doesn't mean similar bills won't be offered up as well.  We need to keep our eyes on Olympia.

Thanks to everyone who contacted the legislators in question!
