Walla Walla County commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday on the county’s 2013 budget. The rest is here.
Commissioners will also take comments on adoption of the 2013 property tax levies. Action on both items may follow.
The hearings will be at the start of Monday’s meeting, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the county Public Health and Legislative Building, 314 W. Main St., in Walla Walla.
Commissioners, elected officials and department heads have been wrestling with how to close a large gap between requested increases in budgeted expenditures and projected revenue. The debate mainly concerns the current expense fund, which pays for much of the day-to-day operations of the county.
“The power under the constitution will always be in the people. It is entrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can and undoubtedly will, be recalled.”
