“The power under the constitution will always be in the people. It is entrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can and undoubtedly will, be recalled.”

"There's Stupid", Part II

In an earlier post, I linked to excellent take down of Time's execrable hit piece on the Constitution of the United States, written by Aaron Worthing.

In a subsequent post, Mr. Worthing decided to focus on the "Thirteen Clear Factual Errors in Richard Stengel’s Essay on the Constitution".  In a short form, the clear errors by Richard Stengel are:

  1. The Constitution does not limit the Federal Government.
  2. The Constitution is not law.
  3. The Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment emancipated the slaves.
  4. The Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment granted the right to vote to African Americans.
  5. The original Constitution declared that black people were to be counted as three-fifths of a person.
  6. That the original, unamended Constitution prohibited women from voting.
  7. Inter arma enim silent leges translates as “in time of war, the Constitution is silent.”
  8. The War Powers Act allows the president to unilaterally wage war for sixty days.
  9. We have only declared war five times.
  10. Alexander Hamilton wanted a king for America.
  11. Social Security is a debt within the meaning of Section Four of the Fourteenth Amendment.
  12. Naturalization depends on your birth.
  13. The Obamacare mandate is a tax.
Mr. Worthing does an excellent job of rebutting Stengel, and it's well worth the read.

"There's 'Stupid', and then there's 'Time Magazine'."

To quote a friend of mine, "There's 'Stupid', and then there's 'Time Magazine'." That national publication recently published an opinion piece by Richard Stengel, Time's Managing Editor, questioning the need for the Constitution of the United States.

I will not link to Time's execrable hit piece, but rather, to an article by Aaron Worthing at Patterico's Pontifications that dissects Stengel's idiocy. It's long, but well worth the read.

The White House Rural Council

" Does The New ‘White House Rural Council’ = UN’s Agenda 21?"

So asks THE BLAZE:
On June 9, 2011, President Obama signed his 86th Executive Order, and almost nobody noticed.

......

President Obama’s E.O. 13575 is designed to begin taking control over almost all aspects of the lives of 16% of the American people. Why didn’t we notice it?  Weinergate.  In the middle of the Anthony Weiner scandal, as the press and most of the American people were distracted, President Obama created something called “The White House Rural Council” (WHRC).

But who's on this "White House Rural Council"?  The answer will surprise you.

Please, read the whole thing.

Four Big Lies

From TEA Party Patriots:

At this very moment members of congress are trying to decide what pieces of America's future they will trade away as part of a deal to raise the debt ceiling. We've had the chance to talk with many of them. And even most of those who claim to be on the side of fiscal responsibility are giddy with excitement that they can trade their vote on this debt ceiling "crisis" in exchange for a handful of magic beans offered by the liberals. Our answer is simple.

It is not acceptable to use the future of America as a bargaining chip.

Do not raise the debt ceiling.

PERIOD.

You will be told 4 lies (at a minimum) by those who want to raise the debt ceiling.  The lies will be packaged and presented in many different ways, but in general they will all boil down to these 4 (remember them and don't be fooled):

Big Lie 1: "The current financial crisis was inherited."

Big Lie 2: "There's no way to cut enough spending. So we must raise the debt ceiling."

Big Lie 3: "We can haggle for some really great deals now that we have them over a barrel."

Big Lie 4: "You just don't understand all of the complicated details. Let us handle it. We're smart."

June meeting notes

First, my apologies for the delayed report, but work has been crazy of late.  Here are some highlights from the meeting on 13 June 2011:

I.  The committees reported on selected subjects:

1.  Local:   "Sustainability" remains a hot topic.  The City of Walla Walla Sustainability Committee meets monthly, and seems to be moving ahead slowly but surely.  The meeting minutes are a month or more behind (May was not posted as of this date), but earlier minutes contain interesting discussions, including "Residential Resource Usage Data" and "Comprehensive Plan".  Members are keeping an eye on this group, and detailed reports will be provided later.

2.  State:  Over 4000 bills were submitted in this State legislative session, most as "Title Only".  This means that the bill is blank when handed to a committee, who then writes it.  In private, with little or no public review.

3.  National:  A number of useful websites were provided.  These contain news and information about current events that impact the nation, and the Walla Walla area:

II.  Martha is in contact with the The Freedom Foundation (née The Evergreen Foundation), who is willing to support us with training and materials.  However, we need to set our strategies for the next 18 months, leading to the national elections, in 2012.  This will allow the Freedom Foundation to focus their efforts, but we need to do it to prioritize our efforts.  A number of issues were presented by the membership, and Martha will hold a special strategy session in July to finalize the list.  If you are interested in attending the session, please contact Martha (w2teaparty -at- gmail.com).

By request....

A few weeks ago, I posted about the local "Sustainability" project, also known as "UN Agenda 21".  Here's the link to that post, for those that missed it earlier!

Obama versus the Constitution. Again.

"U.N. Agreement Should Have All Gun Owners Up In Arms"
It may not come as surprising news to many of you that the United Nations doesn’t approve of our Second Amendment. Not one bit. And they very much hope to do something about it with help from some powerful American friends. Under the guise of a proposed global “Small Arms Treaty” premised to fight “terrorism”, “insurgency” and “international crime syndicates” you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted – our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms.

What, exactly, does the intended agreement entail?

While the terms have yet to be made public, if passed by the U.N. and ratified by our Senate, it will almost certainly force the U.S. to:

  1. Enact tougher licensing requirements, creating additional bureaucratic red tape for legal firearms ownership.
  2. Confiscate and destroy all “unauthorized” civilian firearms (exempting those owned by our government of course).
  3. Ban the trade, sale and private ownership of all semi-automatic weapons (any that have magazines even though they still operate in the same one trigger pull – one single “bang” manner as revolvers, a simple fact the ant-gun media never seem to grasp).
  4. Create an international gun registry, clearly setting the stage for full-scale gun confiscation.
  5. In short, overriding our national sovereignty, and in the process, providing license for the federal government to assert preemptive powers over state regulatory powers guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment in addition to our Second Amendment rights.

"Some Immigrants Turn to Tea Party"

“Why do immigrants leave their country? Because they don’t have opportunity and they don’t have freedom, because politicians control everything,” he said. “We come to America and we are going to have the same crap? Then we might as well go back there.”
An excellent article.....courtesy of "Roll Call".

"If we can't beat voters, sue 'em "

From the Washington Policy Center:
Gregoire wants Court to rule on 18 year old tax restriction

It appears the new motto in Olympia is "If we can't beat voters, sue em."

Governor Gregoire has now joined with Democrats in the House and Senate calling on the Courts to throw out the nearly 20 year old requirement that tax increases require a 2/3 vote claiming the restriction is unconstitutional.
Read the whole thing.  It's worth your time.
